What are you thinking?

What is forward thinking? Does it mean planning ahead for the future? Well it can mean that, but let’s look at some other ways we think.

Sometimes we can spend a lot of time thinking about the past. What that does is causes us to get stuck in the past so that we can’t move on and achieve our full potential. Focusing on past failures and successes can make us complacent. What worked before won’t always work again. If we spend a lot of time doing what we always did, whether it be good or bad, how can we have time to be creative?

Sometimes we spend a lot of time thinking about the present. Lord knows, in this day and age it’s all we have time for. The more we think about the now, the less time we plan for the future, because we’re just too caught up in it.

We can also spend too much time thinking about the future by saying, “When this happens, I’ll do this”, or “When they change, I’ll do better”, things like that. It’s not about the “if and when” concept, rather it’s about what are you going to do next month, year, or five years. Do you have a plan for your business, for example? Does it depend on your actions? Do you want to just keep doing what you’re doing, even if it’s successful? Or, do you want to try some innovative things? The old saying, “If you keep doing what you’re always doing, you’ll always get back what you’ve gotten”, or something like that. You get the point I think.

So, forward thinking is not a rut you get in rather it’s a productive action you take to make some changes so you can achieve your goals. Does that make sense, or I’m I just smoking too much?

Interesting train of thought there. I ifnd it interesting artistically to review the past, try to find out what I did that worked and then build upon it in the future. You are right, it’s easy to become complacent. What works once or twice won’t always work, which is why we try to be creative.

AMEN George, you said it beautifully about forward thinking. It is so easy to get stuck in the past (comfort zone) instead of taking that big step (risk) forward. You are right though about making it happen and I think that is what I need (others also). Thank you George!!!!!!!!!!

As I said, I am thinking on this. Right now I have to agree with Blythart. I need to review the past. I know I have a long way to go, but I know I have improved some also. I am going back to go o ver my old posts. Maybe the ones that weren’t so great in my eyes may have to be removed.
