You may like this useful tip I learned today. Did you know the RAW importer for Photoshop can also work with JPEGs? It’s true! Go set that up in your Photoshop preferences under Edit; Preferences; File Handling, and select Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files.
Now, go ahead and open the JPG in Photoshop. The dialog you see here is the RAW importer for Photoshop. It is very nice because it has these wonderful sliders. You can select Auto, or play with the sliders. Once you’re happy with your selections select Open Image which will close the importer and bring the results into Photoshop control where you can make further adjustments.
Play with it, as I will, to see if it gives you more control over your final results and produces more stunning images.
Let me know what you think.

Wow! Cool! I have Elements 3 and couldn’t find a RAW thing that worked. I ended up using the one in GIMP. I’ll keep looking and try this! THANK YOU!

Thanks for this George. Could you tell me how to do this with Elements 7? Thanks.
George Lenz:
I don’t think Elements supports RAW files

Yes, I am running Raw Editor 5.4 on APE7. It works but does not have “file handling” in its preferences. Thanks anyway.
