G’day Jo,
Dazzling colours and pin sharp intricate detail really make this bug shot stand out.
Two things concern me though:
1. I feel that if you can get this into Photoshop or the like, you could then clone out those two areas of out of focus yellow on our right and the two sharp areas of yellow protruding from the top.
This would add weight to the subject as the eye is distracted by those areas and pulls it away, and
2. I feel this would look good with a square crop.
This would eliminate what I feel are excess areas of background and again give the subject more prominence.
Great lighting/exposure/processing and good contrast wrap this up nicely.

Great close up Jo. I can see from the comments that this is the 2nd edition of the photo, but what you have here is fantastic. I have tried to get some good photos of these flowers with little luck. The curls and bright yellow just contrast too much, but you did a great job of it.

Thank you very much Richard. The flower was the bonus, the hoverfly the target. When the weather improves this weekend I will try my luck on the flower itself.
