Shelly the starfish loved to paint. Infact she painted every afternoon or whenever she had some spare time. Shelly painted whatever she felt, heard, saw or even smelt. Her room wasn’t full of pearls or ornaments like her friends Claudia, Sabine and Stephanie’s. It was full of paintings all around and even on her ceiling. A couple more paintings she would have no where to put them all!
It was a Monday and Shelly arrived at school. She was so pleased to see her friends because today was her birthday!! All her friends swam up to her and shoved presents in her face. Shelly sat on a rock and started to open Sabine’s present first. It was a coral necklace. ‘Ummm thanks uh Sabine.’ Shelly stammered. Next she opened Claudia’s present. It was a pink pearl and that was rare, like really rare. ‘That took me 2 years to find.’ Claudia cried. ‘Thanks a lot.’ Shelly squealed. She always wanted to paint a pink pearl but she never knew what it looked like.
Last present was Steph’s. Shelly was nervous. She slowly unwrapped the present. It was was a note pad and pencils. ‘I know how much you love to paint, so I thought you might like this.’ ‘It’s wonderful.’ Said Shelly. ‘Thank you for all the presents.’ The school bell rang. Did I mention Shelly’s birthday is on the 16th of December? Anyway the four girls swam to class just in time. All day they did Christmas activities and games. That would have been fun!!
When Shelly got home Winston and Patrick were out the front. They were Shelly’s bullies. ‘Well well well if it isn’t Shellypoo.’ ‘Go away, it’s nearly Christmas and you aren’t going to get any presents!’ Shelly yelled. The boys swam as fast as their legs could carry them. Shelly slumped inside and fell face first and her stool. She got out her paint set and her pink pearl that Claudia gave her. She put it in front of her Christmas tree and turned on the Christmas tree lights. She was at her canvas for hours on end. Finally Shelly was done. She had one space left on her wall so she got her hammer and a nail and hung it up. It looked beautiful!!
Many days have past since the day Shelly put up her last painting of the pink pearl and the Christmas tree. It is now the 25th of December but its only 6:00 am. Shelly is already up listening to her music. Shelly’s parents said she is NOT aloud to get up before 7:00 am or no presents. Pretty harsh!
It was 7:05 am and Shelly swam in to wake her parents up. ‘Mum, Dad get up get up!’ she shouted. All three of them swam out of the room and sat near the Christmas tree. Shelly started pulling presents out from under the tree, she pulled out a present. The label said to Ricky (Shelly’s Mum) from Santa Starfish. Shelly handed the present to her Mum. It was a vacuum fish to vacuum up the dust in the attic. ‘Thank you Santa Starfish.’ whispered Shelly’s Mum.
Shelly went through lots and lots and LOTS of presents and she had only got one so far and that was three paint brushes. Shelly finally made it to the back of the tree. It was all Shelly’s presents. She had about ten. All of a sudden there was all wrapping paper on the floor. She took a whole stack of new presents to her room and put them all away. Then she swam out of the house, grabbed her bike and rode to Steph’s house. Shelly didn’t forget to take her back pack and all the presents for her friends. Shelly made it to Steph’s house and handed the present to her. She rode to Claudia and Sabine’s house and gave them their presents too. She had to make one final stop before going home. Luckily Patrick and Winston were out the front. Shelly parked her bike, hopped off slowly and opened her back pack. The boys got all sweaty. Shelly carefully pulled out two gifts, one for Winston and one for Patrick. She gave the boys their presents and rode of without a word. The boys were speechless too. They thought Shelly was going to bomb them with goo or something. Shelly swam inside and began celebrating Christmas with her family!!
The next day the boys thanked Shelly for the presents. Shelly was pleased that they liked the presents. Patrick got a statue of Santa Starfish and Winston got three toy cars. They were so happy that they even asked Shelly if they could be friends with her.
