Melbourne Art Fair

Last night I got to go out to The Melbourne art fair. There was a myriad of brilliant contemporary art. But I don’t remember much after meeting the national treasure,Michael Leunig. There he was talking to someone so I stopped and stared, ready to make an idiot of myself. Hello I said, I think you’re Michael Leunig, he said he was, I proceeded to tell him how much both my daughters love watching a dvd we have of animations of his cartoons, my four year old calls it the funniest movie ever, he said it was one of the nicest comments. He let me photograph him and when he asked me if I was an artist I fobbed him off to continue talking about him. My wife said I was a big star struck girl. But I don’t care : ) I shook Michael Leunig’s hand.

I’d be just the same :)

  • I’ve enjoyed his poems and cartoons since I was a kid. I wish I could have been prepared to meet him. He was very pleasant to talk to.

Haha…what a wonderful opportunity, I’ve always enjoyed Leunig’s work (and have quite a few books). I recently heard a wonderful interview with him on “Classic FM” radio, he seems like a very lovely & humble gent :)
