I took this study of what were then the new-design of GPO telephone boxes in Sefton Park, Liverpool in about 1980. This design never really caught on, and you don’t see many of these around now. In fact, they are probably outnumbered by the classic red telephone box that they were designed to replace. The title is a rather poor pun on the use of the word “trunk”, as in the term for a long-distance call (how old-fashioned is THAT?) and “tree trunk”.
