Chickadee in Motion by

Caught this Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) taking off from this winter bird feeder, kicking up snow and seeds. It seems 1/1000 sec is still not fast enough to freeze the action. Poetry in motion…

Hermitage Park, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Nikon D700 with 70-200 mm (f2.8) and 1.7 teleconverter.

You stopped just enough motion to have a wonderfully clear photo and enough blur to show what was happening. You’ve even caught the seeds in mid air. I can’t see any way to improve this photo. Good job!

I love this capture Gerry. You’ve caught the essence of the quick moving little bird at it’s best. :>)) Leslie

    Hi Gerry,
I see that we use exactly the same gear!!I have also done many shots that resemble yours! it shows how precise the AF is, here your focus had just gone behind the bird! have you tried multi shots- starting infront of the bird and just keep the button down?
    lovely shot anyway!
