The Ainsworth Dyer Bridge (Edmonton, Alberta) was named in memory of a corporal who was one of four Canadian soldiers killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan on April 17, 2002.
Corporal Ainsworth Dyer (July 29, 1977 – April 17, 2002) was one of 4 Canadian soldiers killed by US Forces in a friendly fire incident near Kandahar in Afghanistan (see Tarnak Farm incident).
Dyer was born in Montreal in 1977 and grew up in Toronto. He joined the Canadian Army in October 1997.
He served with Canadian peacekeeping forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2000. He was killed when an American laser-guided bomb was dropped on members of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry taking part in a live-fire training exercise.
