RB musicians? by Grant Bissett

Dear Musicians who are Almost Certainly Somewhere Here on RedBubble,

I have a tiny new company called SoundFolder, which exists to make fancy internet technology more useful to amateur musos.

We have a website, a couple of guitars, and a server or two. We reckon that’s all we need to get started.

SoundFolder aims to be the best best online publishing platform for amateur/independent musos. But we don’t really know what that means, so we need your help please.

If you play any style of music, and you’re interested in sharing your experiences and ideas, drop me an email, (and send a link to your website/myspace). Any feedback we get is GOLD and greatly appreciated, and I’ll promise not to sell your songs on russian mp3 websites.

email hello@soundfolder.com
…or even better, upload some tunes so I have something new to listen to :)

thanks and high fives,
-Grant

    hey grant

post about it on mess and noise
there are some genuine indie musos there who’ll be interested. there are also a pack of cliquey f*ckwits, but you get that.
give them more of this kind of info “When you start using SoundFolder, you’ll see how easily it fits with your home studio. Use SoundFolder to share work-in-progress with the band, host your demo, or to publish your finished albums.” and see if they run with it.

  • Grant Bissett:

thanks for the link, will check

This sounds like it has huge potential. I’m lucky enough to have a few muso friends even though I have zero musical talent myself. Have shared on the book of face. Good luck!

Interesting idea. But you’re in direct competition with muxtape and a few other similar services… not least myspace (which is basically just musicSpace now).

What kind of features do you have that the others don’t?

  • Grant Bissett:

    we love muxtape!

the more sites who can look after musicians respectfully, the better!

I’ve had a poke around, and noticed your free trial. I was thinking you might be more likely to get people to test you out if you had not a time limited trial, but a feature limited trial. I’d sign up for the trial now, but I don’t actually have any recording equipment right now, and wouldn’t want to waste my 30 days while I can’t actually record anything.

That’s just me though. I’ll be sure to tell some people about this.

“wouldn’t want to waste my 30 days while I can’t actually record anything”

yeah good point thanks Paul. Protip: we haven’t built the real payment system anyway, so you can probably figure out how to skip over the paypal stuff. if you’re a badass hacker.

Okay, I’ve signed up for the free trial. Next thing I need to do is go buy new strings for my guitar, and a microphone.

  • Grant Bissett:

cool, now other’s can see it too…

personally I hate myspace … but heaps of musos are there… promoting to each other…

our reverbnation space is new but it’s got a lot of features that help management of information… also, it’s a clean professional looking page for people to be pointed to …

it was however my pool page that serendipitously got 2 of our songs national airplay brag brag brag … hey it may never happen again alright!

What else can I help ya with?

  • Grant Bissett:

“it was however my pool page that serendipitously got 2 of our songs national airplay " …. sweet! congrats
