Jess Reading - Perspective 2 by

This is another oil painting from a series of photos I took of my daughter reading in front of a window which threw beautiful light. This time I have used colours of pinks and mauves.

This is absolutely wonderful! The light is what strikes me first, and then the background colours, and that lovely rich redness of the teapot echoing the colours in that very complicated dress. Must have taken you ages to paint this!

Very clever painting, I think the black white Matisse pattern gives the composition an edge, it acts as a contrast to the beautiful soft form of the figure and the coloured patterned fabrics of the dress. The still-life in the foreground is also so important to the sense of filtered soft light.

Thank you for your kind comments. It was a bit complicated at first and I had those “Im a pretender” thoughts but then came together quite well. A bit overwhelming going from one pattern to another and wondering how it would work but ended up pretty good so I was quite pleased.

I have always marvelled at the detail but the glorious light has always been the key feature.

absolutely beautiful …such a delightfully soft portrait, exquisite in detail and light, shows such an eye seeing and understanding all these beautiful complexities of light/shade/form/perspective… a wonderful composition indeed…the application of colour and paint is fantastic!
