Lovely light and composition. I have been wanting to try shooting with a candle in my work…but I am a little unsure about the rest of the lighting. Do you have to do anything special when shooting with a candle?

Hello Rachel- Candlelight is difficult to handle- I’ve tried a few techniques inc. bracketing and blending, snooted flash and adding extra light using a Maglite etc. they can be quite effective- however I now use home made dark grad centre/ off centre filters- so that the light on the surrounding objects can be shot using a long exposure without producing a horrible over-exposed glare from the candle – I’m still experimenting – watch this space!
