The reason for “Gotcha” as the title of this work is because he is gripping a single feather with his beak.
As his feathers were growing a semi-transparent, sleeve like arrangement, would develop and encase the new feather completely. By working this sleeve off it allowed the green feathers to come through and to start to grow. Time consuming work, one feather at a time until all his feathers had been released.
Alex would even let me assist where I could.
Taken with a Canon EOS 350D with the standard 18-55mm lens. I used Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 to do the editing.
