Elvis Lesley by

Last evening, as the sun was setting, I thought the clouds were in a good position for a nice colorful show, so I went up the road to the new Police Station to get the sunset reflecting in the building’s tall windows. Very artistic. BUT… there’s a wire fence around the construction site and it was all too hard. I was about to leave and return home when out of the blue there was an apparition. I couldn’t believe it. “I gotta get a pic of this!” I said. And the apparition replied, “No worries, I’ll do a pose for ya!”

The bloke’s name is Barry Catt. Apparently he’s quite well known in Taree (although I can’t imagine why). I later learned that he’s also well known by the local constabulary. Hehe. Anyway, Barry made an agitated and energetic attempt to tell me his entire life story in the shortest possible time. It was overwhelming and I could hardly get a word in. That’s when I learned that he’s going to change his name to Elvis Lesley (his father’s name was Lesley). He had more rings on his fingers than I thought physically possible, as well as chains and baubles around his neck. His suit was bedecked with a pirate’s treasure trove. And this was little old sleepy Taree where nothing much happens?

I seem to have a talent for bumping into eccentrics… China with the hat recently, Captain Cook and the bearded taxi driver the other day, and Elvis last night.

I’m not a believer in Fate, but I do wonder about it. I went to the cop shop last night to get a reflected sunset and I ended up with this bloke. Hehe. “That’s the way God works,” was Barry’s explanation. He’s big time into Gospel music.

About Gary Kelly

I’m a hobby photographer. In fact, I’m not sure Red Bubble should refer to me as an “artist”. But I do like to take photos that are above average, and certainly appreciate learning from my fellow Bubbleonian’s efforts as well as their comments. I use a second hand Sony Cybershot F717 and a Fuji Finepix S7000… oldies but goodies. Photography allows me to keep souveniers of my experiences. Today’s deeds become tomorrow’s memories.

Haha. I love your stories Gary. This bloke really is a character. By the way, I love the little bit of motion blur on his right hand – it really makes the photo come to life.

  • Thanks for the fav, William. I’ve spent all day thinking the background should have been out of focus and yadda, yadda… but it was a catch as catch can situation. Yes, the blurred hand… I didn’t notice that until I transferred the pics to the comp. He spoke like a gattling gun and went on and on about his life. AND THEN he wanted to come home with me! Aaaaggghhh! “No, no, no, no, you can’t do that,” I said. “I live with a couple of loonies (which is true) and I’ve gotta cook dinner and and and and…” Anyway, he got the hint hehe. Whew! The things a bloke does for a photograph.

    G’day Gary!
Looks like a combination of poor toilet training and lack of attention paid to him in his early childhood. No blue suede shoes? I’m sure the real Elvis would have learned a lot from this bloke! A great meeting of two interesting characters! :)george

  • G’day George and thanks. I agree with your assessment in relation to early toilet training, and also that the white shoes were not such a good look.
