Gary Kelly

Off to Sydney for two weeks by Gary Kelly

Posted on January 03, 2012

G’day fellow Bubbleonians. Just to let you know I’ll be out of action for a while. I’ll be at RPA undergoing surgery for a cancerous lesion in my mouth, which has spread to a nearby lymph gland. The surgery is relatively straight forward but the recovery takes a while because of a skin graft and whatever else, which means 10 to 12 days staring at the bloody ceiling. HOW BORING. I’ll have my netbook and wireless modem with me but I’m not sure about access to power. Anyway, behave yourselves while I’m not looking.

Hope all goes well Gary…It certainly would “drive you up the wall” staring at the ceiling for that long!!.. All the best, Gary.. .Cheers Sue :-))

  • Gary Kelly:

Thanks, Sue. Michelangelo stared at the ceiling for a long time but that was different. He has his coloring-in book to keep him amused.

Until I read further than the title, I was going to say the weather should be better than last time you were there …
I really do hope all goes well for you … surgery and recovery uncomplicated (if a little boring) … do you have an i-pod or mp3 player, or even your netbook full of music to while away the hours … or might you dream up and record (on paper) some words of wisdom to share at a later stage …
Hope all goes well for you … all the best … Trish (^_^)

  • Gary Kelly:

Thanks, Trish. I gather I’ll be zonked for the first few days so I won’t be too concerned about anything, let alone the weather. Not sure about words of wisdom either. My right arm will be out of action for a while. That’s where the skin is coming from for the graft. It’s almost time for to leave… seeya in a couple of weeks… hopefully with a few pics.

Hope all goes well for you Gary. When I saw you were coming to Sydney again I was going to suggest we meet up one Friday when I have respite and you could come up the mountains and take some photos with me. I think you will agree that sounds like a better proposition than 10 – 12 days in hospital. All the best mate.

  • Gary Kelly:

You can say that again, Terry. I’m still at RPA 5 days after the op and looking pretty sore and sorry. The op lasted 10 hours…I had no idea it was that complicated. But I’m on the mend and should be home again by the end of the week. Can’t even have a cuppa…being fed through a tube.

Sounds like a big job Gary, get well soon mate and thats a bugger about the cuppa.

  • Gary Kelly:

Yes but I graduate to sipping water today…maybe fruit juice tomorrow and then maybe a cuppa by Thursday. Can’t wait.

Oh Gary… I didn’t see this until right now! You poor bugger. That SUCKS! Mind you, it’s probably better than having cancer in your mouth. How are you now???

  • Gary Kelly:

Back home late yesterday arvo but very weak. I was lucky to make it back at all. If the hospital knew my true condition they wouldn’t have discharged me… but me no tell. Me no like hospital or all the bloody noise my fellow patients made through the night. Last night’s sleep in my own bed was bliss! But I gotta take it real easy for a while… it was major surgery, 10 hours, and then tubes all over the place. A nightmare! 6 weeks of radiation therapy to follow at Port Macquarie, but the worst is over. Thanks for asking, Mieke.

I’ll keep you in my prayers, Gary (coz I happen to believe that helps…)
Take it easy and look after yourself. Or rather, get others to look after you. Do you have someone to wait on you, hand and foot??

  • Gary Kelly:

Not you too! God must be wondering who the bloody hell this Gary Kelly is all of a sudden. I’m a carer for a couple of people, one of whom is far more capable than the other, so he helps out a bit. Good thing I quite like pumpkin, pea and ham, cream of mushroom and chicken soups cos that’s all I can eat… plus fruit puree, custard, yoghurt, health drinks and all that stuff. But I cooked their dinner tonight… mostly sitting cos I can’t stand for long.

Soup sounds pretty good to me right now. It’s been raining and miserable all day… and despite being warm, it feels a bit sort of winter-ish… Might have to make myself some soup for dinner tonight!!
