First Sale!

We all hope to make a sale or two on Red Bubble but when it actually happens it’s like “Ooer! Somebody bought my pic!”

Yes, it is a thrill, not to mention an incentive to take better pics and sell more of them. But the first question that pops into your head is “Why?” Why did the purchaser buy that particular shot? In my case, it was a close-up of a ‘59 Chevy tail fin – just one of them. But a bloke can’t rush out and take hundreds of shots of tail fins in the hope of making a sales killing.

I imagine that most of us get our fair share of complimentary remarks about our photographic efforts, but if all the commentators bought everything they praised, well… they’d need a helluva lotta wall space!

If we knew what it is that triggers a purchase, we’d all be rich and famous. Hehe. I suspect we’ll never really know. Apart from that, the level of competence and competition on Red Bubble is staggering, and the choices overwhelming.

Nonetheless, Red Bubble provides all of us with a fantastic opportunity to swap ideas, learn new skills, expand our horizons and get feedback from fellow photographers and artists. Even better, it’s a global community!

Anyway, whoever you are – the person who purchased a print of my Chevy – I thank you for putting your money where your mouth is, and for giving me a memory I will forever cherish.
