From The Dark Side / Juvenile Dark Morph Lesser Snow Goose by

Best viewed Large….

A very lucky find for me as these birds are not seen often in this area. This is a n immature Snow Goose in Dark Morph phase (Blue Goose). It has gotten a little off course from its more Easterly migratory route and ended up here for a rest at Petrie Island on the Ottawa River Ottawa, Ontario Canada. It was among approx 50 Canada Geese who are double its size.

Canon 7D and 500 F4 with 1.4XTC on tripod at its lowest setting …ISO 400 and 1/640 sec at F10

A great find and shot, Gary. Petrie has been very good to you this year…

  • Thanks Bill and yes…Petrie has been awesome…I stopped by there on my way home from the American Coots at A Hayden,,,just for a minute and spent almost 2 hours ..I got within 30 feet or closer to this bird and when I left he/she was sleeping …probably exhausted from the long flights.

    Who needs Victoriaville? :-)

Nice one Gary, looks like it was at ease with his bodyguards being nearby.

  • Thanks Dan and I found that the Canadas, Gulls and this bird would move towards the water whenb they saw me but when I kneeled down they would reverse direction and move back to the beach..I did a lot of duck walking yesterday afternoon :-) As for Victoriaville …I bet that is where this guy wants to be…almost as much as me LOL

A classic fellow – nothing lesser about him, if you ask me.

  • Thanks Sheila and I think I am more or lesser in agreement with you:-)
