A Taste Of Winter/Pine Grosbeak by Gary Fairhead

A Taste Of Winter/Pine Grosbeak by

One of my favourite winter migrants and its hit and miss if they show up in the Ottawa ON area or not… This male is distracted by the feeding frenzy they get into and they are one of the messiest eaters I have seen. They appear to dig out the seeds and leave the flesh of the fruit behind, on the snow below or more often on their beaks. It can in fact be difficult getting a shot of one with a clean beak.
