A 601 Squadron RAF Spitfire Mk IXe, UF-Q / MJ250, in silver livery, catching the sunlight while looping the loop. Evoking the sonnet ‘High Flight’ by RCAF pilot John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Magee was killed in a mid-air collision while flying a Spitfire over England during World War II. He was 19. The aircraft he was flying when he composed the poem was a much earlier version, in standard camouflage colours, but I’ve used poetic licence.
