SECONDS SAVORED IN A DARKENED ROOM

Pearls glistening
in an opened oyster
a lightness of being
in her upturned smile…

this weightless moment
we share together
as we float upon
the blue, blue Nile…

seconds savored
of pure ambrosia
only seconds of pure
in this impure trial…

as a happiness purrs
upon her lips
a happiness beyond
all the world’s denial

SECONDS SAVORED IN A DARKENED ROOM by

Like Lawrence Durrell said: Sometimes you have to wait 20 years for a poem. Well, the 20 years are up. And then, like this one, it all comes together in 30 minutes flat. That’s the creative process, no rhyme nor reason. Well, O.K., a little bit of rhyme. It is a poem after all.
