A portrait of the late Princess Diana in commemoration of the 15 years since her death this year. Although an adverse fan of royalty anywhere on the planet I believe this was such a waste whether by accident or intentional.

Taken from a web photo with the colour of her dress changed from white to blue for aesthetic reasons and because I can.

Drawn in predominantly Faber Castell Polychromous coloured pencils on a 30×37cm cold press illustration board.

I am a self taught coloured pencil artist residing in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. My passion at the moment is human portraiture, especially celebrities, as due to their high profile nature the margin for error is minute and an intriguing challenge. I also do commissions, both human and non-human, when the occasion arises. Thank you for viewing my work and feel free to leave any comments, good or bad, and I will certainly respond.
Cheers
Gary

You do what you do SO well Gary. The hair is perfect, the eyes are perfect, the flesh tones are perfect, the jewellery is amazing and although I am not a ‘fan’ of celebrity portraiture, I think this is absolutely wonderful.

  • Lynda, I have told you a million times not to exaggerate your plaudits. Seriously, thanks so much for your keen observation of the details of my work and making the hair pulling moments almost bearable. Actually I’m not even a great fan of celebrity portraiture either but I love the challenge with a million and one critics ready to pounce on you.

This is exceptionally good Gary. I don’t know how you do it, but the jewellery looks like real pearls and diamonds, and that hair is amazing! You’ve really excelled here, and I predict one or two sales at least!

  • Thanks Margaret for taking time out from your own search for that pearl of bricks and mortar to comment on my work. I must admit I did try to go that little bit further in my efforts to attain realism in the details of the drawing after all she not your average Ms Jo bloe. Comments like yours keep the motivation fires alight.
