The Lovely Lee.. by Gary Fernandez

Inspired by the award winning film and all time favourite of mine, ‘The Days of Wine and Roses’, a portrait of a young Lee Remick taken from a web photo and hopefully doing justice to her beauty.

Drawn in a mix of Faber Castell, Prisma and Derwent studio coloured pencils on a cold press illustration board, 30×40cm.

I am a self taught coloured pencil artist residing in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. My passion at the moment is human portraiture, especially celebrities, as due to their high profile nature the margin for error is minute and an intriguing challenge. I also do commissions, both human and non-human, when the occasion arises. Thank you for viewing my work and feel free to leave any comments, good or bad, and I will certainly respond.

I can only imagine the patience to draw a wool sweater. Great work.

  • I’m not sure if it was patience Michele or just a lot of time with nothing else to do. Thanks heaps for the comment.

Very good portrait! ;-) I managed to recognise her, instantly, right away; even as being a very small thumbnail; before I went and blew it up just in order to be perfectly sure. I remember this actress; she was very highly respected; even being a woman working in what was…and, indeed, still is…largely, a man’s world; namely, the film industry; I have to very deeply admire her ability to stand up for herself really well; she was femine; but, with a hell of a lot of inner self-confidence/guts!

  • Many thanks Paul for your thoughts and word of praise.

You have certainly done her justice Gary. Those sparkly blue eyes are amazing, and the textures in her jumper are perfect. Well done.

  • Its funny, but after studying every nook and cranny on her face for hours on end the beauty has somewhat waned. Note to me: do not draw people you are attracted too. Thanks very much Margaret.

great portrait , i just loved Lee Remick , and had the good fortune to see her in person when I worked for BBC Wales while she was doing a series there.

  • Wow, I am impressed with your luck of seeing her in the flesh, I think if it was me I would have passed out!
    Thanks very much ‘WILT’.
