perfect shade of red, sets it off nicely

  • Gareth Colliton replied 23 days ago

Ta, Soxy. I don’t usually do the touch of colour thing, feels a bit too ‘Schindler’s List’ for my liking, but she really was sitting on a bright red chair with pale skin and black clothes, so it works well enough.

    Fantastic…love this…beautifully drawn

  • Gareth Colliton replied 23 days ago

Oh, hey thanks, Mick. Your portrait of Andrew is one of my absolute favourites on here. If you’re interested, I’ve got a journal entry on the subject and it’s making for some interesting debate!

I really don’t like working with charcoal (feels and sounds like fingernails against a chalkboard not to mention the mess) but I have seen some amazing work from that medium. This is one of them. Good job!

  • Gareth Colliton replied 21 days ago

Truly messy business, but with the right paper and charcoal, you can avoid the blackboard sensation! Thanks for the feedback.

Such a strong and confident drawing. Love it.

Bad paper, not much time = good drawing. Too often, it’s the truth!

This is beautiful! I love how you’ve drawn her hair and legs.

  • Gareth Colliton replied 12 days ago

Thanks Lisa. I think I used the sharp edge of some compressed charcoal for the whispy hair. I also used water on the charcoal to get quick tones and blacker blacks…
