I thought I would have a go at trying a little looser painting style this time.

Painted on Arches 140 lb. cold press, with Daniel Smith watercolors

Besides photographing things I find beautiful, I love to paint in watercolor! It can be loads of fun, creating its own beautiful color combinations as they run together on the paper, or it can be surprisingly independent, doing “its own thing” where you pretty much have to give up control – one never knows! That’s all just part of the fun!

Love fuchsia! Love this! I have trouble allowing myself to use a “looser” painting style. You seem to have it figured out well!

  • Angie, I have to credit Don Andrews in his book “Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor” for helping me “catch on” to a few of the basics in this looser style of painting. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to loosen up their work. His suggestions and principles can apply to any kind of painting, not just the landscape. Thank you for your kind comment!

This is so lovely Pat. What a nice loose colorful piece. Very nice work.

  • Thanks so much, Kate – it’s a “style in progress” for me, and I’ll be trying to do more along this line. It’s so much fun, it’s faster, and uses up much less in the way of a mental workout in watercolor. ~ Pat
