Cascading Ruffled Begonia

Cascading Ruffled Begonia

Each summer we enjoy this wonderful pink ruffled begonia draping over a hanging basket by our front door. I just have to be sure I don’t put it out too soon, or the neighborhood juncos always build a nest in it. Have you ever tried to water a hanging plant and yet totally miss the tiny nest and eggs in the process? It doesn’t work!

A real beauty Pat and the colour is plain gorgeous. I don’t know why we don’t have any begonias these days, I always used to be very fond of them. Peter

  • Pat Yager replied

Hi, Peter! I got this one from the Antonelli Brothers in California, and I’m glad you like the color. I’m sure you could find them in Australia over the internet come spring in your part of the world. Why not give them a try?!

Beautiful work, Pat. Terrific colour of these showy blooms. Hope the nest didn’t get too wet ;-)

  • Pat Yager replied

Thank you, Steve. I really like this color, too! The nest did get a bit wet before I discovered it was there, but from that point on, the birds won out. – Pat

Thanks so much, Bev! The ruffles add so much, I think, so now I’m trying to paint it – we’ll see! – Pat

Ahhh, yes. We used to get birds nesting in our hanging baskets, too. Lovely shot, Pat

  • Pat Yager replied

Hi, Mary-Ann! Yes, I think they feel they’re quite safe there, at least from the four-footed creatures that inhabit our neighborhood. I’m glad you like this begonia! Pat

These are so pretty Pat, I’ve never seen begonias this form and colour before and they look perfect in the hanging basket with the sunlight on them, beautifully captured.
I know what you mean about birds nesting in hanging baskets, I experienced that a few times in my former house’s garden,
    Regards, Rod.

  • Pat Yager replied

Hi, Rod! I’m so pleased that this begonia gives you pleasure! And I do hope that you can have some hanging baskets in your present home! I think they are a quintessential part of England. Thanks for stopping by! – Pat

  • Pat Yager replied

Thank you, Braedene! I do what I can with a garden that receives more and more shade each year. And begonias do so well with a bit of shade so I always appreciate their brilliant color shining out in the darker areas. – Pat
