The Game of Kings, Wave Six: The Black Queen's Rook

The Black Queen’s Rook (The Basilisk)
Artist: Simon Sherry
Biography: Danny

Another giant mutant created by the Shaman, the Basilisk is charged with protecting the Black Queen.

Like the Bullrock, the Basilisk is the product of gene splicing – in this instance dragon and giant.

More intelligent than the King’s Rook and fiercely loyal to the Queen and King equally, the Basilisk is allowed to wander free on its own estate and hunt , train and care for itself. When entering the field of battle, it is usually accompanied by swarms of its parasitic minions, The Stain.

Cheers :o) This, along with the Black King’s Knight were the first two characters I worked up for the series, and they’ve both evolved quite a bit from their original incarnations.

Now thats beautiful mate – not literally, literally he is a scary lookin MF, but the design, the lines, the scale and the colouring is – love that castle on the back. I’d be pissed too if I had to lumber that around with me all day. I also love the way he is reaching down ready to raise his axe, you just know its gonna be heavy!!Great one mate, this has taken first position as my favourite, black kings rook is now in second.

I hope that the white army have some serious tricks up their sleeves because they ain’t got the muscle compared to these giants!! Awesome work Simon!

When you’re finished… are you planning to do a view of the whole army together? Maybe looking at the armies from each side of the chessboard.. that would be cool? (although the sizes of some of them wouldn’t exactly be easy would it). Still to see the full (or most of) black army in a row coming at you would be one intimidating and very cool sight!

  • GameOfKings replied

Larger works incorporating each army in full are definitely on the cards – although you’d be hard pressed to keep them within the bounds of a LARGE poster!

    One of my faves!
As for the White army, well they are a more graceful, clinical and methodical army… they’re more than a match ; )
