So ends the Game of Kings
An almighty effort from
A lot of friends.
So after nearly three years from original idea and four months in rolling out, the Game of Kings The Battle has finally been completed.
Simon and I had the final task of actually finishing up with most of the group’s artists not knowing how the story would end.
Poor Simon was still doing finishing touches up to the last minute.
I actually saw it as a bit of a reward for the others to still have a touch of mystery in the project right up to the wire.
All up Phase Two The Battle was a very successful venture, totally different in style and release from the First phase back in 2009 (was it that long ago) where in that section we introduced characters and established roles and personalities for each piece that would culminate in the second part.
Sadly a lot of the creators of the first phase were unavailable to join in for the second phase.
The reasons were many, a lot had moved on and found success in their chosen fields (richly deserved) spent less time on Red bubble and/or couldn’t find the time. Also it must be pointed out, a great number of the first phase artists were designers and were not really comfortable doing action scenes. This is also one of the reasons many graphic artists and people with backgrounds in comics were approached.
Due to the lengthy process of putting the Phase two together we lost a few of the new conscripts but also collected some amazing new members who took on a lot late term artwork.
All up it’s been an amazing ride with works being devolved into startling pieces other transformed into animations.
I must point out even though some of the First Phase artist’s didn’t contribute to the actual second part of the project they still had access to the Project’s Group page and offered heaps of advice and encouragement along the way, and for that we thank them wholeheartedly.
We also got a little bit more than we bargained for we held a competition to run concurrently with the Phase 2 release where we got contributions of more artwork, models and in three different instances music and song.
With the multi talented IWML band mates The Kings giving us a whole albums worth of material of songs relating to the Battle.
It must be also noted that there is still some mighty amazing sequential work that is still sitting in the can that still has to be released.
Most of this artwork relates back to the backstory of the First Phase and is (hopefully) going to be released in the near future.
So I hope you can have another look at the story that is the Game of Kings and maybe tell your friends and most of all Simon and I would love to thank those who were there for the ride and hope there might be a Phase Three (the prequal)
