Old Gundagai Bridge
This bridge is a total length of 3,025 feet, making the viaduct one of the longest timber structures ever constructed in Australia.
I remember this bridge most, from having to cross it when the river was flooded. The water could get to around 2 metres (6 foot) below. Travelling across this bridge (which always seemed to have some movement), was a pretty scary experience.

Thanks again midzing.

I also love it from an engineering perspective and it’s proximity to a wonderful part of the country. Fantastic b&w Gail. The texture in the timber members has really come up well.

Sure works well in B&W – I wonder that the poor old thing is still standing! It was rickety donkey’s years ago!
GailD
Thanks Will & Rosalie. It is a bit of a masterpiece. Closed to traffic now though. (Right at one end you come onto it for a couple of metres if you’ve been down on the flats).
Marvin Collins
Beautiful B&W Gail, well done!!
GailD
Thank you Marvin.
Kofoed
Lovely, Gail. I like these old wooden constructions very much. Your photo is beautifully composed and it’s excellent in B&W.
GailD
Thanks Kofoed. I like the textures in the seasoned wood & I preferred the B&W version.
Ozcloggie
Grand!! Something else on a road to Gundagai that might be famous, one day?
GailD
Thank you Ozcloggie. Perhaps. I think the dog will always be tops though.
Antanas

GailD
Thank you again Antanas.
Maximus
Now that’s beautiful.
GailD
Thanks very much Maximus.

Brill B&W, awesome perspective and as someone already mentioned the texture in the wooden structure has really come up, this is such a lovely bridge, Now I’ve seen no bridge like this over here LOL.
Thanks for sharing Gail.

Thanks again Jason. All stone bridges are they?
