As I fell upon wounded knee

lightning tore across the sky.

The only sound of thunder

was a cry from my heart.

Silently, my tears watered the earth.

I knelt, as if captured there in stone.

The wind blew gently back my hair

with such sweet softness,

pure and tender as your touch.

The darkness was heavy upon my shoulders,

but within my mind was warmth of light

accompanied by whispers

of a dignified world.

There came to me weepings

of heaven conquering hell,

stretching across seven shades of lavender.

Echoes emotionally drenched

with pain and love …

And somehow,

I understood.

Pain And Love

i do not question the thoughts that are laid upon my heart, but rather write them down as they are poured from my soul, line by line as you see them here. none of my writings have ever been edited.

among the indians of the pacific northwest, the verb for “making poetry” is the same as the verb “to breathe”
