Artist's Description

Sold my first framed pic! :)

This Steel Blue Ladybird Beetle is small in size, body length 3mm. The wing covers are uniformly shiny dark blue/green metalic in colour.

When they hunt for aphids, they will encounter different species of ants that come for the honey-dew from the aphids.

The ladybirds helmet shaped wings protect them from the ants, they sit with their legs and antenna hidden under the helmet. They will stay like this till danger passes.

This Ladybird Beetle was such a challenge to photograph. The metalic colour would reflect and it was really hard to photograph this without the flash, they tend to hide in the dark. Using flash would turn them black so I found this rather a challenge.

Fast little critters!
