Eastern Rosella’s in my garden. I just love these parrots, they have the most gorgeous birdsong. This is a mother and her baby almost full grown (baby is sitting behind), he follows her everywhere, constantly squeaking to be fed. Must drive a mother crazy! Normally these birds are very timid but I think this must be the closest I’ve ever gotten.

They are beautiful birds to have around… I don’t mind the ones we have here at Greenethorpe helping themselves to my cherries, peaches and apples. Nice capture Gabe.

  • Hahahaha! Funny you say that Phil, mine were in the orchard eating my plums and my cherries, I wasn’t mad cause I love them so much but now my fig tree is just about ripe, I’m thinking of putting the net out but I still haven’t done it. They are eating the crab apples off the tree, they can have those sour little apples. We got 4 babies this season with three sets of different parents.

You got a beautiful shot here Gabe. How close were you? As you said, they are pretty shy. It’s a fav Mate.

  • Hi Al, thanks so much for the fav! :) xx I was standing probably 6 feet from the trunk of the tree, so probably 10-12 ft from the birds. Yes this is the first time they haven’t flown away. They are so timid, I can’t even move from the veranda to the lawn to get a shot.

  • Hi Mr Tom, thank you so much! Yes I love these birds I’m thinking of trying to find their birdsong on you-tube and pasting it here, so you can hear them. I haven’t had a look yet to see if there’s a video, I hope so! :)

Hi Gabe, you have a couple of great captures here. Did the daughter take them??? She is a good little photographer all right.

  • Hi Alwyn, no I took these photos all by myself! :) You’re just being cheeky! LOL! Hey can I send you a pic Kiri took of this bird at Ray’s farm up at Singleton, we couldn’t find it in any of our bird books. We need your brain! :P

I love these Eastern Rosellas too Gabe but unfortunately they are found here where we live. Wonderful capture Gabe.

  • Hi Ralph, thanks m8tee for the lovely comment! Do you mean that you don’t have them? I thought they were in your area, you get the mountain larry’s, we don’t get them here! :( I love them! They’re so beautiful. OK trade you a few?

They are in most other parts of Queensland but not here Gabe. We do have many Pale Headed Rosellas though but I have only seen them once at the feeder. I see them feed regularly in our back paddock.

  • Hi Ralph, they might like a smaller seed. I noticed that my red-rumped and scaly breasted like smaller seed. I was naughty, I spent $40 on the seed with fruit for the Rainbows but they didn’t seem to like it. The possum ate that, so it’s back to normal parrot mix. Do you buy the 20kg bag from the produce?
