He lightly held her dainty wrist in his palm.
The cold maple benches beneath them held a reminder.
That the December snow meant he had to go.
He softly kissed her neck, almost apologetically, and breathed her in for the last time.
He lowered his head and whispered, “I just realized I need you.”
She smiled sadly towards the peaks of the mountains.
She mumbled the words, “I’m numb to your cold heart these days.”
The snow falling suddenly became more violent around them.
Have you ever seen the look of fear in the eye of a soldier ?
A train whistled in the cold air.
His figure seemed to fade away, rather than walk towards the tracks.
He silently boarded his train.
And never looked back.
