when I'm far away.

I run my fingers through your hair as
electricity pulsates through my entire body,
much like the constellations in space do
when they decide to burst a broken star.
Your breath clings onto me,
like a lonely newspaper in the street that catches to the wind
and never really cares where it is going.
Lift your head up, let me look at you.
Let me touch you in ways
that leave you awake in the night;
that make your hands wish
they were tracing the outline of my bones.
Let me touch you in ways
that make you ache in the morning
when the sheets are cold and wrinkled
and you reach out to me,
but I’m nowhere to be found.
Don’t feel so far away from me.
I’m always a stray blonde hair on your jacket,
or a smeared fingerprint on your passenger window.
I always want to be this close with you
but when I’m not,
and I feel so far away,
I promise you.
I’m never really
quite that far away
at all.

I love you.

when I'm far away.
