Contemplation

Sitting in a sanctuary of white
Isolated in snowy nature
A gift of solitude
A place to contemplate
The ebb and flow of the sea

Listen to the quiet sounds
Of seabirds winging across the sky
An ocean churns beyond
Waves thrashing at the sands
Winds now silent after the storm

Beige and whites create art
Abstracts of rippling sands and snowy designs
Nature’s ever changing artistry

Footprints sinking into the sandy crust
Impressions of bird and man
Their signatures soon to be erased
As wind and tides wash all away
A slate once more to be used again

Come sit in this sanctuary of whites
Stay as long as you wish
Contemplate all that is offered
Susan Werby

For all who love to sit in the solitude of snow.

“Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and which there divines the spirit of which Nature herself is animated.”
Auguste Rodin

Thanks to Distressed Jewell for her lovely texture “Flight in Cyan”
Other texture created by me “Torn Paper in Copper”

Residing near the beach, I love to take my camera on photo-shoots when there is an impending storm, darkened skies, with the threat of rain or even snow! The shadows call to me and the fog is my friend. I hear sounds…yet most of the surroundings lie hidden from view. This allows me to escape into my own world, creating the next canvas for another of my “paintings.”

    Absolutely love this Susan

  • Snow often inspires me, Malcolm…and who would know that we, who do not typically get snow, would have it again yesterday in March!!! Lucky me, I think…

I love benches in the snow. Looks almost like someone dug this one out. Very appealing, Susan.

  • The wind had created a little haven for this lone bench, Frannie… So it does seem created by shovel… Thank you and stay warm!!!

Oh I love everything about this!!!

  • I am so very happy you find this one to your liking, Kathilee! The bench sits at the end of my path to the beach…It changes with the seasonal surrounding…but winter brings out the utter best in it, I think. Thank you!!!

Cool warmth? An oxymoron? Uh-huh.. A powerful contradiction. It’s the artist’s job to ask questions, but way beyond our pay grade to answer them Susan. Contradictions are questions… This one pops!

  • I absolutely love the way you think, Ted… I love the oxymoron concept and why not? The snow melts when it gets warm… I merely was helping temperatures to increase with some hues that have that capability… Thank you for your humor and compliment too!!! Makes me smile!!!
