Looking out of a hotel window, I was drawn to the flickering lights of the city below… Washington, D.C. quietly slept below, transcending time to a place of simplicity and quietude.

For those who relish “Times Gone By”, the twinkling of gaslights are just for you.

“How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?”

Residing near the beach, I love to take my camera on photo-shoots when there is an impending storm, darkened skies, with the threat of rain or even snow! The shadows call to me and the fog is my friend. I hear sounds…yet most of the surroundings lie hidden from view. This allows me to escape into my own world, creating the next canvas for another of my “paintings.”

Magical, Susan!! I just love these colours and the way the peaceful city has been transformed by the night and the filters of your mind.

  • A beautiful and thoughtful comment, Ali…You have such a way with words and that is so very appreciated! I looked through the window at what I thought to be modern Washington, DC and I suddenly soared back in time to gaslights and people from the 1800’s… I went with it and this artwork was my result… Happy weekend to you, my friend.
