Well it started out as just another assignment. Finding beautiful children wandering around in the street was easy. The difficult bit was attaching the beard and trying to slip the robes over the head of the child. The child started screaming like some demented banchee, and it’s mother came running. Hurriedly they boarded the bus to escape from us, and there we were, left with nothing to shoot but the bus station platform.
Jesus, my gear carrying assistant, suggested that we leave the beard and robe in the shot lying on the platform, but we agreed it would be a useless intellectual piece of snobbery and symbolism that no one would understand.
Later back at the studio, Jesus asked me this question: “If god inhabits the whole Universe, which clearly has countless billions of species in it, why did he choose US to look like him.?” …don’t be stupid Jesus! And stop whinging about doing all this popularist photography- when we are famous and rich, we can go back to the arty stuff.
