Artist's Description

A bit off the beaten track- up the hill immediately to the south of the carpark, Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens, Picadilly Valley, Adelaide Hills.
In researching this I discovered that the entire Picadilly Valley was clear felled of trees in the 19th century to feed the copper mine smelter, leaving only a few isolated Stringy Barks. The forests we see today are entirely regrowth forests over the last century and a half, covering hilltops and sprawling between the patchwork quilt of vineyards and crops of the beautiful Picadilly Valley.
