Melbourne's Laneways & Alleys 2 by

Melbourne’s Laneways and Alleys 2

Taken in Centre Place near Degraves St in Melbourne. As these two sat here with their friends I asked if it was ok to take a shot and they said ‘sure’. Glad that they didn’t pose (not that I think they would have, wouldn’t have been cool)!
Saw them a couple of days in a row hanging out in that alley so I presume it is a regular haunt for them.

I thought that b/w-sepia was the only way to go here – too much colour going on otherwise.

Camera – Nikon D90
Lens – Sigma 18-250mm

Converted to b/w-sepia using gradient maps.

FEATURED IN – ‘Kustome Kulture’
FEATURED IN – ‘Male Appreciation’

2nd Place in the June 2011 Pollux Awards – People Section. Non-Professional.

Looks like a photo shoot of London youth in the 70’s 80’s ! good to see that hairstyle never went out of fashion ,they probably just have a few more peircings than back then ! Fabulous as always Trish

  • Thanks Trudi – couldn’t resist getting a shot of these guys, especially in the setting. Certain fashions/movements never seem to die out entirely. Thanks again :)

Great shot Trish…it looks better without color.

  • Thanks so much gene – I agree, there was too much going on with all the colour. They were a pretty cool pair :)

Something has there attention. Great work.

  • Thanks Joy, I was really glad they didn’t look directly at the camera, much more semi-candid this way :)

I think the mono isolates there style more, another of my fav lanes – great work

  • Thanks so much Christine, I only wish I had have had more time to spend wandering thru all the lanes, that one in particular. Melbourne has a certain ambience that other Aussie cities just don’t, love spending time there :)

Ha, I’ve seen these guys too! I think they make their way around the city’s lanes :)
This is perfectly processed Trish, the sepia tones enhance the grunge and funk of their appearance. Great work!

  • I would have liked to have taken alot more shots of them on the other day I saw them, but didn’t think I should approach them again – they seemed fine, but I might have annoyed them by asking again lol :) Glad to have gotten at least one ‘ok’ shot. Thanks so much for your thoughts here andrew, always really appreciated :)
