I have 2 Cockatiels, Dib and Casper.
I got Dib first a few years ago, as a baby.
He was a bit timid at first and didn’t like to be touched, but he’d sit on my shoulder.
He fell in love with me after some bribes with popcorn. After which he let me scratch and cuddle him.
After a couple of years, I wanted to get him a friend, as I worked during the day and he would get lonely.
I saw casper in a pet shop, she was in a cage by her self with a sign saying, “2 year old cockatiel, comes with cage, needs some work.” I fell in love with her straight away, she had an attitude. I asked what ‘work’ she needed. She didn’t bite but she wasn’t vary friendly. Once she let you take her out of the cage, she would sit on your shoulder, but then tell your ear off for being to close.
Dib should sort her out, I thought.
I brought her home, and dib fell in love straight away, to the extent that when she was in the room, he wouldn’t let any one else near her, or him. He had rejected me for the new girl. I had lost my cuddle buddy, but at least he was happy.
She tolerated him, but wouldn’t let him get too close. I thought it will change once they were together for a while.
It’s been more than a year now, and they are just like a married couple, He adores her and sings to her and wants to get close, and she tells him off and chases him away….
But dib’s happy, and casper can be herself.
I love my birds.
