Great new bird for me, spotted last week at Falcon State Park along the Rio Grande in south Texas.
birding, birds, cardinal, morgenstern, pyrrhuloxia, texas
Looks like a parrot relative?
Hi Al, no it is a member of the cardinal family.
– Bill Morgenstern
Oh yeah, now I see the resemblance.
Nice detailed shot Bill, really pops!
Thanx for the look and comments Andy.
Thank you Joanne.
Beautiful, beautiful shot. If he were a human he looks like he could be a doctor – intelligent, perched and ready.
Thanks so much for your very kind comment.
lovely bird and beautiful presentation!
Thanks very much Anne!
Wonderful capture. Nice dof and colors
Thanks for the comments.
Sweeeet! Wonderful shot Bill!
Now I’m blushing from all of your great comments. Thanks….
Pleased you looked and like it!
looks alot like the female red bird….i could be mistaken, have been known to be in the past.lovely shot~Bill
It is a female Pyrrhuloxia, found along the TexMex border.- Cardinals look similar but the female cardinal does not have the gray with rose chest high lites nor the rosy crest. I was birding with a nationally recognized expert so there is no doubt about the species ID. Thanks for looking.
