Copper Country Beach by Bill Morgenstern

This is a rocky beach in Upper Michigan’s Copper Country west of the small town of Ahmeek. This coastal area of Lake Superior is absolutely breathtaking with red rock and sand beaches for miles up the coast to Copper Harbor. If you have not seen this part of Michigan you are missing out on a true treasure.

A slow shutter speed blurred the early morning waves. I added a bit of frac to emphasize the magic.

Beautiful! You’ve really made the water look like it’s moving – not the static ‘cotton wool’ look that seems to be so popular now for some reason! Lovely image of amazing red rocks :)))

  • I really appreciate your critique and supportive comments on this image. Your compliment validates the magic I tried to capture.

Absolutely incredible Bill, it hardly looks real! Did you enhance the red in the rocks? If not they’re really amazing.

  • Thanks for your comments on this one. The rocks are just about dead on for color. This was taken just after sunrise and that is what helps to give them this great glow of red. This is really as magical place, as you can see.

Copper Country is one of the most beautiful places in the UP! We visit there often, and know Ahmeek. Great Shot!!!

  • Thanks for the comments. This was taken close to 5 Mile Beach.
