Now one of my other passions is mineral collecting, begun as a boy and nourished during my high school days sneaking into mines at Idaho Springs, Colorado. Anyway, this is a really fine red quartz with an amethyst core that I collected near Thunder Bay, Ontario a few years ago. I like the straight picture but think that this Redfield frac version brings a new dimension and releases the life and power this cluster contains.

I have been accused many times of having rocks in my head and I will admit it is true. So if there are others out there in “Bubble Land” that share the same affliction maybe we should put a group together here to showcase mineral/crystal art through photos or any other media. Any takers??

Hey there Mr Bill….I freaking love this!!! I love rocks too. Funny! I have been collecting crystals and minerals since I was a little girl. My mom used to take me gold panning in the mountains all the time in the summer and I guess it kind of stuck with me! I do not gold pan but when I find a treasure I will buy it!!!
The frac on this makes it look more crystalized well done! This is beautiful!!!

  • Now I knew you’d have a few rocks in your head just like me. I’m glad to hear you are one of the afflicted. I definitely believe in sharing some of my found treasures so let me know if you are interested. And a big thanks for liking this frac version.

Bill this is fantastic! Love your treatment on this quartz and the outstanding color you achieved, excellen work! Well, I am no authority on rocks, but having been born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario I have always appreciated their value and admired them, and I have been known to cart rocks I like from one province to another….

  • Thanks Joanne and that color is close to the real thing. Now it really is interesting to find out just how many people here have a thing for rocks and minerals. Thanks for fessing up :o) to “rock love”.

Excellent image Bill, I used to work in an underground copper mine for 30 years and had a lot of opportunities to get some really good stuff, but never did, kinda wish I had.

  • Thanks Marvin and man would I like to have seen what you had access to down below. I worked underground for a few years also in Colorado and still have those specimens I found in my collection.

Beautiful!. I use to rock collect at one time. I’ve also been Panorama Mines in Thunder Bay to hunt for amethyst.

  • Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Both are appreciated.

What a fascinating effect! I’m also a fellow rock fan, although with few exceptions I only buy my specimens rather than collect them. I use a microscope to take very close and hopefully arty shots :-)

  • Thank you for your comment Stephanie. It is nice to hear from another mineral fan here. Check me out on FB to see what I have to offer in specimens.
