Summer Bluet
This damselfly is a bluet species and probably Hagens, but it is very difficult to tell without magnification of its tail end. Photographed July 16th, I did some post processing in PS using dry brush to give it a bit of a painterly quality.

Bill, congratulations on a superb shot. Damselflies are notoriously hard to photograph, given their minute size and their extreme skittishness. I love the blue and black on green, the dof you achieved, the intricate details you captured on this tiny insect. Very well done!
Bill Morgenstern replied
Thanks so much for you view and comments Bonnie. I do a lot of photography of dragons and damsels and have exhibited my “Dragons and Damsels” series in Ontario and Minnesota galleries and museums.

This is really nice and I’m sure, like Bonnie said, damselflies must be hard to capture. Very nice.
Bill Morgenstern replied
Thanks for the comment. Actually damsels are rather easy to photograph since they fly very short distances and generally sit low to mid range in the vegetation. They most often stay sitting for a long time if not spooked.

Absolutely amazing! These damselflies are quite fast! Love the contrast in color as well. Excellent work!

Fabulous shot Bill. I first saw one of these when visiting the U.S. last year. I took a photo of one up near Beaver lake. I never knew there were such awesome colours in a dragonfly!

Thanks Kathie. You should look for these at home, they are found in Australia also.
