Dangling Ankles

I sat on the edge of the world
on the cliff
by the sea
allowed a salted tear to roll down my plump cheek

oh
woe
is
me

I pushed off the pebbles
from the edge of my world
tumbled and turned
each memory unfurled
into the ocean
to swim with the waves
my turbulent thoughts
should never be saved.

I dangled my ankles
I dangled my dreams
I tested the feeling

oh
I’m
so
extreme

I wondered how was it
what if
what about
I wondered if I should
give it up
here and now

I sat on the cliff top
I sat alone with my tears
sullen and saddest
I’ve now been here for years
I’m waiting to realise
I’m waiting to see
I’m waiting to consider
The world outside of me.

Oh, gorgeous. I think you’ve captured how consuming sadness and self-reflection can be sometimes. I love it! I’m so glad my picture has inspired such wonderful words. Thank you Nicole.
