It wears off eventually!! Or if you use acrylic, it eventually washes off!!
I once had this fantastic black cotton dress that we’d spattered paint all over, on purpose. But one day it wore out (literally… and the black and all the colours had faded anyway). if only I didn’t wear it so often, it might still be around (of course, it woudn’t fit anymore anyway, but it’d be nice to have still).
