Artist's Description

An Anise Swallowtail ( Papilio zelicaon ) plunges its proboscis between grains of granitic sand apparently to tap into some fresh lake water. The swallowtail persisted at this task for quite some time, testing several new locations down the lake shore. As the butterfly drank, another member of its species arrived, and the two partook in a swirling aerial dance before both settling on different patches of sand several meters apart.
