Artist's Description

Appearing somewhat like a group of Velociraptors , three Sandhill Cranes ( Grus canadensis ) walk in formation across a frozen pond in search of their next meal. Very cold temperatures over two weeks in December 2009 froze most of the bodies of water in the vicinity. At times, birds seemed to walk on water. Masses of ducks, mostly mallards, filled the waterways that remaind ice-free. Subfreezing temperatures and a chill wind left the photographer quite cold on this gray morning.
