Artist's Description

This male Cardinal Meadowhawk (Sympetrum illotum) used a number of fading clover flowers for perches. Not the prettiest of choices, but probably good locations to be when you sport brown and red colors. Decent camouflage. Aside from perching on clovers, this dragonfly also spent time chasing other meadowhawks, as well as some nearby skimmers, in an effort to defend a small patch of territory.
