A male Eight-spotted Skimmer (Libellula forensis) briefly pauses on a dead cattail stem. Within seconds, another male skimmer flitted past, showing off its brilliantly-patterned wings. Prepared for such challenges, the dragonfly vacated its perch in an instant, and the two odonates raced off over a nearby field, spinning around each other in a beautiful dance.
