Two Cardinal Meadowhawks (Sympetrum illotum) fly in tandem, male in the lead, female in tow. The two ruddy odonates have recently mated, and the male is assisting the female in laying eggs in a pond. Though eggs were deposited in other locations, the two found this spot to be the most promising. And here they spent a fair amount of time dropping the seeds of new red dragons.

  • Thank you very much, Chuck. Lately I have been seeing darners fly past my patio—and I live in a very urban location. They seem to get around.
