Artist's Description

A Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) pauses under the weak low-angle sunshine of a cool February day. Likely a bold decision, sitting in the bright illumination. Little birds such as this seem to prefer to perch in the shade, perhaps as a means of hiding from predators. A preference for shade may also be to aid vision in a manner similar to a person holding their hand above their eyes to create a sunshield.
